Anyone is welcome to join a gem tour—no prior experience or background knowledge is required. However, individuals with asthma are advised not to participate in primary deposit activities.

Health insurance is mandatory for gem expeditions and must be arranged prior to arrival. Malaria medication is optional; however, we strongly recommend using insect repellent and protective measures throughout your stay. Yellow fever vaccination requirements depend on your country of origin or recent travel history. Please check the latest travel guidelines before departure.

A business visa is required to participate in gem tours or to purchase gemstones in Tanzania. The cost is $250 per person. Please note that a standard tourist visa may not permit these activities. Tanzanian residents and locals are exempt from this requirement.

Based on your selected tour, we will advise you on the most suitable port of entry. Clients entering via Kenya can also be assisted with transfers into Tanzania, and vice versa, ensuring a smooth and seamless travel experience.

The Tanzanian Shilling is the official currency used in Tanzania. However, US Dollars are also widely accepted in certain areas and for select purchases. We also offer assistance for clients who wish to exchange money locally or obtain a local SIM card if needed, ensuring a smooth and convenient experience throughout your stay.

Accommodation is tailored to your comfort, preferences, and budget—we carefully select options to suit your individual needs. Please note that gem tours visiting rural areas may offer more limited accommodation choices compared to larger cities, where a wider range of options is available.

Gemstone tours can be arranged year-round. Once you submit an enquiry, our team will confirm availability and assist with planning your visit. Please note that weather conditions may affect certain experiences. As a result, visits to secondary (alluvial) deposits are not recommended during the wet season. Gem deposits are typically located in remote areas and require travel by road. Journey times and conditions may vary depending on the specific mines included in your itinerary. Based on your selected tour, your guide will provide a detailed briefing so you know exactly what to expect.

All meals are included throughout your trip. Food is prepared using locally sourced ingredients, either freshly cooked on-site by our chef or enjoyed at carefully selected restaurants. If you have any dietary requirements, please let our team know in advance—we are happy to accommodate your needs.

Throughout your trip, our guides are available in English, French, Swahili, or German to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience.

Appropriate clothing for mine visits will be advised by your guide. In general, we recommend wearing protective clothing to guard against insects and abrasion when visiting primary deposits, along with sturdy, closed footwear. Please note that blue and black clothing is not recommended in national parks, as certain insects are attracted to these colours.

Luggage allowances may vary depending on group size; however, we recommend one suitcase per person, whether small or large, for ease of travel and transfers.

Tipping is not compulsory and is entirely at your discretion, based on your satisfaction with the trip. As a general guideline, we suggest around $10 per person, per day.

Participants must be at least 16 years of age to join the tour. Guests under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times throughout the experience.

Laundry services are available throughout the trip at an additional cost.

Photography and videography are welcome throughout your trip unless otherwise advised by your guide. Please note that drone use in Tanzania is strictly regulated and requires a valid local licence. Without the necessary permit, drones may be confiscated at the point of entry, so we strongly advise compliance with local regulations before travel.

Should you purchase any gemstones or jewellery during your trip, our team can assist with arranging secure shipping to your preferred address. This service is handled with care and professionalism and is available at an additional cost.

Bookings cancelled between 6 and 12 weeks before the scheduled tour departure are eligible for a partial refund. Cancellations received less than 6 weeks before departure are non-refundable.
